What is Silent Book Club Outer Banks?

Silent Book Club Outer Banks is part of the larger Silent Book Club global community of readers with nearly 2,000 chapters in 60+ countries. Members simply gather in-person to read together and swap stories. All readers are welcome and there's no assigned reading — it's bring your own book.

What Happens at Silent Book Club Outer Banks?

It's pretty straightforward! Silent Book Club Outer Banks is just an opportunity to gather in-person to read together in quiet camaraderie. A typical Silent Book Club Outer Banks' event goes as follows:

  1. 6:00 - 6:30pm - Sign in, let us know what you're reading, fill out a nametag, and chat with other attendees for about 30 min. (Or if you're not up for talking, feel free to settle in and start reading.)

  2. 6:30 - 7:30pm - Find a seat and quietly read your book of choice for an hour. (At Silent Book Club, there's no assigned reading. All readers are welcome—ebooks, audiobooks, textbooks, comic books... it's BYOBook.)

  3. 7:30 - 8:00pm - Chat with attendees or head home if you like. Easy peasy!

Our events are free and support local businesses.

And it's not like Fight Club. What happens at Silent Book Club Outer Banks doesn't have to stay at Silent Book Club Outer Banks. Keep reading! (Obviously.) Explore other books and genres you learned about! Tell others!

Please be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to connect and stay updated on the latest events and news!

Meetings FAQs

HOW DO I JOIN?
All you have to do to join us is show up! There is no formal registration required and we do not keep a member list. We do ask that you sign in upon arrival so we can determine our average head count and select appropriate venues in the future. We also capture what you're reading so we can help folks build their TBRs!

IS IT FREE?
Our monthly meetups are always free to attend. We do ask that you support our host venue by purchasing food or drink if available!

CAN I COME ALONE?
Of course! Most of our members attend solo and there is always a chance to meet like-minded booktroverts. Or you can just read in the presence of others without judgment.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

  • Your own book (kindle and audio count too!)

  • A book light just in case

  • Headphones if you prefer your own jams or earplugs if you're sensitive to light conversation (we do not have exclusive use of the venues)

  • Book(s) to swap with other members (optional). Leave one, take one. All leftovers are donated to local Little Free Libraries.
